Translation and deployment of research-based technologies from academic organisations will address problems including climate change, energy security, food security, affordable health.
Venture Center is partnering with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Facility for Low Carbon Technology Deployment (FLCTD) project to boost technology transfer in Indian academic and research institutions.
The FLCTD project has been instrumental in supporting early- and late-stage climate-tech startups, helping over 30 innovators de-risk and commercialize their solutions for industrial and commercial sectors. Now, the project is expanding its focus to strengthen technology transfer functions in higher education institutions and R&D labs, ensuring Indian industries benefit from cutting-edge research.
To share expertise in de-risking and commercialization, UNIDO and BEE have engaged Venture Center to develop a Technology Transfer Handbook and a training program for startups, researchers, faculty, technology transfer professionals, and policymakers.
Sandeep Tandon, National Project Manager, FLCTD Project, UNIDO, emphasized the importance of this initiative:
“Climate change is a global challenge, and innovation will play a crucial role in reducing energy and environmental footprints. This partnership with Venture Center will build a strong foundation for capacity-building in technology transfer, benefiting researchers, startups, and professionals.”
Dr. V. Premnath, Founder Director, Venture Center, highlighted the significance of this initiative:
“As India moves towards an innovation-driven economy, strengthening technology transfer offices will be key. Enabling the translation of research into impactful solutions will help address critical global challenges, including climate change, energy security, food security, and affordable healthcare.”
This collaboration marks a significant step in advancing India’s technology commercialization ecosystem—empowering researchers, startups, and industry players to bring innovative solutions to market.
